TAIGH SGOILE

West Park, Aberfeldy, Perthshire

2018

Taigh Sgoile follows the steading aesthetic with a narrow footprint and steeply sloped roofs within the West Park development of former agricultural buildings. This was originally plot 5, which stood to the South of a larger Agricultural Barn, that we moved to a new site more easily accessible by larger vehicles for the transport of livestock. It is located adjacent to the Grantully Castle Designed Landscape Area and as such was strongly influenced in its design, by the surrounding buildings.

The house is rectilinear in form with a narrow footprint also due to the narrow nature of the plot. The kitchen, lounge and living room are open plan and located to the West of the ground floor, taking best advantage of the privacy of the plot and the views to the North West. Large corner windows open up to give easy access to the garden ground. There are four bedrooms, three upstairs with a family bathroom and en-suite for the master bedroom, above the garage.

The design used recycled stone from the farm for part of its Southerly front/public elevations. The slate roof has catslide dormer windows to the South, and veluxes to the North.

The house uses and air source heat pump and woodburning stove, which is centrally located to the family room and kitchen.

It is a timber framed house, with Siberian larch, pre finished before its fixing by our clients, who built the house entirely themselves. This was the third house built in the West Park development which forms an enclave of houses located with stunning views towards Farragon Hill, half way between Aberfeldy and Grandtully.

The house was built for our clients to bring their business from England to Highland Perthshire and to work from their home in local development.
